Anne Salway Dolan Memorial Scholarship

Our goal

The Anne Salway Dolan Memorial Scholarship has two primary goals:

Provide annual scholarships to Cranford, NJ high school seniors who have played for the Cranford High School Swimming or Field Hockey teams for 3-4 years. We have given out 19 scholarships as of May 2024 totaling $19,000.
Sponsor an annual field hockey clinic in Anne's name for grades 3-5 in Cranford, NJ. We have given more than $1,157 in total to support this clinic since its inception in 2022.

SCHOLARSHIP

Our goal is to give annual scholarships to Cranford, NJ high school seniors who have played for the Cranford High School Swimming or Field Hockey teams for 3-4 years.

Scholarship Description:
This is a $1,000 scholarship for Cranford High School seniors (both boys and girls) who have been a member of either the CHS Swimming or Field Hockey Team for 3-4 years.

Scholarship Requirements:

Must be Cranford High School student
Must have been on Cranford Swimming or Field Hockey Team for 3-4 years
Must submit letter of recommendation from your swimming or field hockey coach
Need to know the following:
- College
- Major
Submit short essay
- 500 – 1000 words
- Topic: What Does “Team” Mean to You

Scholarship Presentation:
Scholarships will be announced and presented at the Cranford Booster Club Senior Banquet on May 20, 2025 at 7 PM at The Westwood in Garwood, NJ

Field Hockey Clinic

Anne's scholarship fund has sponsored an annual field hockey clinic from Jan - March every year in her name since 2022. Be sure to contact the Cranford Recreation Department for more information: (908) 709-7200

ABOUT ANNE

On Dec. 26, 2019, we all lost a remarkable person, someone we realized wasn’t just important to us as a family, but to all of us as a community. Anne Salway Dolan described herself on Facebook as “just a girl from Cranford who loves her hometown and wants to give back!!”

She loved this town and had a special place in her heart for all the teenagers who grew up here. She loved listening to their stories, and she loved being their first boss. Every Cranford, NJ teenager held a place in her heart. She cheered for them when they won the race and comforted them when they lost. She wanted to be there for “her kids” as she called all the Cranford kids who she watched and cheered for over the years.

Donations

We would like to thank everyone who donated to the Cranford Booster Club and Cranford Field Hockey Club in Anne's name since she passed away.

We have established this as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the hope of sustaining Anne's scholarship fund for years to come.

pool dedication

The Cranford Centennial Avenue indoor pool was dedicated to Anne Salway Dolan on December 18, 2021. For her entire life, Anne was deeply committed to the Cranford pools as a swimmer, lifeguard, instructor, and facility director. She passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in December 2019.

The ceremony included the following speakers:

The event concluded with the unveiling of a plaque in Anne's honor that commemorates her lifetime of dedication to the pool. The ceremony was open to the public and was held at the Cranford Centennial Avenue Pool, located at 401 Centennial Ave in Cranford.
